Fiat is doubling down on the microcar segment with the unveiling of the Multiplina, a four-seat quadricycle that blends retro charm with modern practicality. Designed as a spiritual successor to the iconic 1950s Fiat 600 Multipla, the Multiplina is set to become the latest star in Europe’s booming micromobility market, where tiny, license-free vehicles are a cultural phenomenon. The concept was originally slated for a Vatican City media event this week, but Fiat CEO Oliver Francois scrapped the plans, pushing the reveal to October due to dissatisfaction with some details. The only image available so far confirms the Multiplina’s adorable, grinning front fascia, which pays homage to the original Multipla while sporting a more refined and contemporary look than its sibling, the Fiat Topolino.

Unlike the Topolino’s three-wheeled, single-door layout, the Multiplina features two doors—one per side—and a proper rear bench, making it the first four-seater in Fiat’s microcar lineup. Fiat hasn’t released official dimensions, but it describes the Multiplina as roughly the size of a classic Fiat 500, positioning it about 18 inches longer than the Topolino and 18 inches shorter than the original 600 Multipla. The automaker bills it as “the missing link between a Topolino and a car,” emphasizing its space-efficient, human-centric architecture. Practical touches include a rollback cloth sunroof, though Fiat hasn’t detailed cargo space or seating configurations.

Under the hood, the Multiplina shifts from the Topolino’s L6e-class light quadricycle restrictions (8 HP, 28 mph top speed) to the L7e heavy quadricycle category, allowing up to 20 HP and a near-60 mph top speed. Fiat also hints at a larger battery pack, promising significantly more range than the Topolino’s 46-mile EPA-equivalent figure. While the Topolino is already confirmed for the U.S. market—Fiat recently shared footage of a shipment of them arriving at an American port—the Multiplina’s American prospects are equally promising. Given its four-seat capacity and higher performance, it could slot into U.S. low-speed vehicle (LSV) regulations more seamlessly than its three-wheeled sibling.

No pricing or U.S.-specific specs have been announced, but Fiat’s aggressive push into micromobility suggests the Multiplina could be a hit with urban families, teens, and anyone craving a fun, affordable, and ultra-compact ride. For now, the world will have to wait until October for the full reveal, but one thing is clear: the Multiplina is poised to steal hearts as the cutest microcar on the block.
