Stellantis is plotting a bold strategy to shift its North American sales leadership from Jeep to Ram by the end of the decade.

The automaker’s plan, outlined in Automotive News, projects Ram’s annual sales to surge to 825,000 units by 2030—a 60% increase over last year’s figures—while Jeep is expected to reach 740,000 units.

This aggressive push comes as Ram looks to expand its lineup by more than doubling its current offerings, venturing into new segments after U.S. sales hit a 12-year low in 2025.

The brand is preparing to launch compact and midsize pickups to compete directly with Chevrolet, Ford, and Toyota, while also entering the full-size SUV segment with the Ramcharger.

Additionally, Ram is reviving the small van category with the Promaster City and catering to street truck enthusiasts with the muscular Rumble Bee lineup.

The move marks a significant shift for Stellantis, which has long relied on Jeep as its North American volume leader.

Meanwhile, Stellantis is exploring partnerships to offload struggling luxury brand Maserati, with CEO Antonio Filosa confirming talks with two potential partners during a hearing at the Italian parliament. The automaker is expected to finalize its decision on a partner soon.

In autonomous vehicle news, Waymo is recalling nearly 3,900 robotaxis in the U.S. due to a software flaw that caused vehicles to enter closed freeway construction zones without recognizing ramp closure signs.

The recall, filed with the NHTSA, follows over a dozen incidents since early April in California and Arizona where Waymo’s autonomous vehicles failed to detect construction zones and continued driving. This marks Waymo’s second recall in just over a month.

On the used-car market, dealers are facing inventory shortages as lease returns remain below pre-COVID levels.

With new-vehicle prices pushing buyers toward used cars, dealers are adapting by purchasing vehicles from customers during service visits to bolster their used-car stock.

Industry analysts note that while lease returns are expected to increase to around 2.9 million units this year—still far below the pre-pandemic 4 million—dealers are relying on trade-ins and service-lane purchases to meet demand.
