Trimac acquires California Freight to expand food-grade bulk transport in California

Trimac Transportation has acquired California Freight, a California-based food-grade bulk carrier, for an undisclosed sum. The deal, announced on August 4, 2026, marks Trimac’s second acquisition in the Golden State within two years. California Freight will retain its name and operate under Trimac’s umbrella, with executive Jesse Hanson stepping in as president to lead the integration. The company operates eight trucking terminals, a warehouse, and brokerage facilities across California and Nevada, specializing in dairy, food, and agricultural markets. California Freight began as a regional brokerage in 1989 before launching a transportation division in 2012, which now runs a fleet of tractors and tankers—primarily hauling raw milk to processing facilities. Its operations also extend to wine, food and beverage, and agricultural sectors. Trimac CEO Matt Faure highlighted California Freight’s strong reputation in the agricultural and dairy economy, calling the acquisition a strategic fit with Trimac’s long-term growth plans. The deal follows Trimac’s 2025 acquisition spree, which included Valley Bulk (a dry bulk carrier in Victorville, Calif.), Service Transport Co. (a chemical products hauler on the U.S. Gulf Coast), Searcy Trucking (a Winnipeg-based open-deck and heavy-haul carrier), and Watt & Stewart (a specialized haulage carrier for mining and forestry).
