Stellantis recalls nearly 850,000 U.S. vehicles due to backup-camera software glitch

Stellantis is recalling approximately 850,000 vehicles in the U.S. over a software defect that can disrupt backup-camera images on vehicle media screens. The affected models include Jeep, Chrysler, Dodge, and Ram vehicles from the 2026 and 2027 model years. An additional 107,000 vehicles outside the U.S. are also impacted by the issue. The recall is part of a broader trend of problems with backup cameras, which have become one of the more error-prone features in modern automobiles. Since the U.S. mandated backup cameras eight years ago, faulty camera systems have led to recalls of roughly 21 million vehicles. The defect stems from radio software that may prevent the rearview camera image from displaying on the vehicle’s media screen. Stellantis will address the issue by providing customers with an over-the-air software update. The company has stated it is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this defect. The recall adds to a series of challenges Stellantis has faced in recent months, including investigations and recalls involving other models and safety concerns.
