Land Rover is known for producing vehicles that can conquer the harshest terrains on Earth. Despite most buyers not using their SUV’s off-road capabilities, Land Rover still subjects its development vehicles to rigorous torture testing.
A video showcases the development of the 2004 LR3, known as the Discovery 3 in most markets, undergoing durability tests. The tests include curb strikes, ramp drops, and on-road emergency maneuvers.

The LR3 prototype is seen barreling over a curb at 30 mph, hitting a 300-mm ramp at 10 mph, and dropping off a 450-mm ramp at either 20 or 30 mph. The vehicle withstands these tests with ease, demonstrating its off-road capabilities.
The video is a testament to Land Rover’s commitment to developing vehicles that can handle tough terrain, even if most buyers don’t use them for that purpose.
