Slate, the Amazon-backed startup automaker, has opened pre-orders for its ultra-affordable modular electric pickup, the Slate Truck, with a starting price of $24,950. That figure excludes destination fees and other undisclosed charges, pushing the real-world cost closer to $27,000.
The truck’s entire ethos revolves around extreme customization—almost every feature is an optional upgrade, leaving the base model stripped down to the bare essentials. Standard equipment includes a backup camera, keyless entry, a locking front trunk (frunk), climate control, airbags, traction control, two USB-C ports, an anti-roll bar, a small bed, LATCH system, six airbags, electronic stability control, cupholders, automated emergency braking, attachment points, and a NACS charge port.

The Slate Truck is powered by a single rear-mounted electric motor producing 181 HP and 195 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 63-kWh LFP battery that delivers a claimed 205-mile range. DC fast charging tops out at 150 kW, capable of charging from 20% to 80% in 30 minutes, while Level 2 AC charging takes 4–8 hours for a full charge.

Payload capacity is 1,550 pounds, and towing capacity stands at 2,000 pounds. Slate claims deliveries will begin between January and March 2027.

For those preferring an SUV-style rear instead of a truck bed, pricing starts at $29,950 for the four-seat configuration, with a less practical fastback SUV rear hatch option priced at $31,950. Customization options are nearly limitless, with add-ons ranging from $50 for carpeting in the frunk to $499.99 for a factory wrap kit.

Audio starts at $149.99 for a pair of dash speakers, while a tablet mount is offered for those who want a screen. Other upgrades include door armrests ($50), dashboard color changes ($60), roof lights, fog lights, rock lights, various racks and carriers, a solar panel folding tonneau cover, spare tire carrier, jobsite cargo box, and even a lift or lowering kit. Slate has not yet disclosed delivery fees or pricing for many options, including the lift kit.
