Czinger is pushing boundaries and innovating in ways bigger companies simply cannot, with the 21C hypercar serving as its technological showcase. Coming from California, the Czinger 21C features a wildly innovative, mould-breaking design that looks alien, save for its wheels. Two versions are available: the VMax, designed for speeds exceeding 250 mph, and the standard high-downforce version built for track work. Both models were driven back-to-back on Californian roads.

The hypercar’s baffling shape is dictated by its unique tandem seating arrangement—two seats placed one in front of the other in a central position—which allows for a slimmed-down glasshouse and a much slipperier aerodynamic profile. The rest of the exterior is shaped by aerodynamics and cooling requirements for its bespoke 2.9-litre twin-turbo V8 and hybrid system.

Beyond its looks, Czinger employs proprietary metal 3D-printing technology to create complex shapes impossible via traditional manufacturing methods. This allows for the weaving of complex structures within parts, meaning suspension components use load paths to determine precisely where material is needed without a single wasted gram. The resulting components resemble movie set dressing rather than conventional wishbones, cross braces, or engine cradles.

With its fighter-jet seating position, 1250 bhp on tap, an 11,000 rpm redline, and less than 1800 kg to shift, the 21C delivers an intense driving experience. As described by evo senior staff writer Yousuf Ashraf in issue 351: With the engine fizzing and primed at 6000 rpm, the acceleration is instantaneous and borderline violent, accompanied by the serrated sound of the V8 intensifying in pitch while electric power hits the front wheels. At 9000 rpm it feels time for a gear change, at 10k it wails like a superbike, and as the 11k cut-off approaches, the delivery is so furious that your mind can barely keep up.
