On October 28, 2026, Latin NCAP released its first crash‑test results under updated 2026 protocols. The Chery Tiggo 2, sold as Tiggo 2 Pro, Tiggo 2 Pro Max and Chirey Tiggo 2 in Mexico, earned a zero‑star rating.

The vehicle comes standard with four airbags and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) but scored 0 % in both Adult Occupant and Child Occupant protection, 49 % in Pedestrian Protection and 45 % in Safety Assist. Latin NCAP cited structural instability—an unstable structure and foot‑well area in a frontal impact that caused high chest compression for the driver—along with a fire risk identified during the crash test.

The model also lacks side‑head protection as standard, rear‑seat pretensioners or load limiters, and offers no Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). Alejandro Furas, Secretary General of Latin NCAP, said the result puts Chery in the spotlight for low safety performance in a popular market segment.

Earlier this month, Chery faced quality concerns in Malaysia after a Chery Omoda 5 experienced a rear‑axle assembly separation on October 6, prompting the Road Transport Department (JPJ) to temporarily suspend the Vehicle Type Approval (VTA) for the model and halt new registrations. Chery has initiated a recall covering 8,878 Omoda 5 C and H variants.

At the World Intelligent Connected Vehicles Conference (WICV) on October 21, Chairman and President Yin Tongyue apologized for the quality concerns and stressed the company’s commitment to “putting down roots” in overseas markets rather than seeking quick profits, urging Chinese automakers to approach international expansion with humility and respect for local regulations. Chery exported over 115,028 vehicles to Central and South America in the first half of 2026.
