Record-speed ramp-up: BMW Group Plant Debrecen builds 50,000th BMW iX3 in nine months

BMW Group Plant Debrecen has hit a major milestone, producing the 50,000th BMW iX3 just nine months after the start of series production. The achievement marks the fastest ramp-up of any new BMW Group plant to date and underscores the Hungarian facility’s role as the launch pad for the Neue Klasse, BMW’s next-generation vehicle architecture.

The milestone was reached thanks to an accelerated second-shift introduction in February 2026, implemented well ahead of schedule to meet surging demand for the all-electric BMW iX3. Raymond Wittmann, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG responsible for Production, called the achievement “the result of an outstanding team effort,” highlighting the plant’s ability to deliver high volumes quickly while maintaining quality.

The BMW iX3 is not only the first series-production model of the Neue Klasse but also the first vehicle built in the newly constructed Debrecen plant. Its rapid scale-up provides critical learnings for BMW Group’s global production network, which plans to launch 40 new or updated models by the end of 2027.

Hans-Peter Kemser, President and CEO of BMW Group Plant Debrecen, emphasized the site’s pioneering role: “As the home of the first series-produced Neue Klasse model, Plant Debrecen is helping shape the future of the BMW Group’s global production network.” The plant’s early experiences are already feeding into other BMW Group facilities worldwide through shared digital tools and a unified database, enabling faster problem identification and resolution across the network. Demand for the BMW iX3 remains robust, with the company on track to reach 100,000 incoming orders in the near term.

The Debrecen plant’s success reflects the broader strategy of scaling the Neue Klasse architecture globally, leveraging lessons learned from the fastest production ramp-up in BMW Group history.
