Orange EV ramps up East Coast port electrification with massive fleet orders

Electric terminal truck specialist Orange EV has secured two major East Coast port orders, signaling a decisive shift from pilot programs to full-scale fleet electrification. APM Terminals Elizabeth at the Port of New York and New Jersey has ordered 96 Orange EV HUSK-e XP electric yard tractors, marking one of the largest single commitments to port electrification announced to date. The trucks, built at Orange EV’s Kansas City, Kan., facility, are designed for heavy-duty terminal operations and can handle up to 180,000 pounds of combined weight. Each unit is equipped with a 310-kilowatt-hour lithium iron phosphate battery pack and meets Build America, Buy America Act requirements.

In Philadelphia, Greenwich Terminals has deployed 24 Orange EV yard tractors at the Packer Avenue Marine Terminal as part of a broader electrification initiative. The project, supported by a $75 million grant from the EPA’s Clean Ports Program, will enable the retirement of 10 diesel-powered trucks and is part of a terminal-wide effort to replace remaining diesel yard equipment. The deployment also includes four electric rubber-tire gantry cranes, further reducing the terminal’s carbon footprint.

Orange EV’s expansion follows a 60-truck deployment at APM Terminals Los Angeles’ Pier 400 facility earlier this year, where a 20-truck rental pilot scaled into a full fleet. CEO Kurt Neutgens called the orders at Elizabeth and Los Angeles an “inflection point,” indicating ports are moving past testing phases to standardize on Orange EV’s turnkey electric terminal truck solution. The company also highlighted its vehicles’ reliability, citing over 14 million operating hours and 33 million miles logged across its installed base, with fleet uptime averaging more than 97%.
