No New Ferrari Offers a Manual V12—But This Restored 550 Targa Does

Touring Superleggera has unveiled the Veloce12 Aperta, a restomod Ferrari 550 that revives the manual V12 experience with a targa roof. This strictly limited-production machine keeps the original 5.5-liter naturally aspirated V12, producing around 500 horsepower, mated to a six-speed manual transmission and rear-wheel drive. The sprint to 62 mph (100 km/h) is claimed at 4.4 seconds, backed by upgraded Brembo brakes and adaptive TracTive suspension.

The exterior is a full reimagining of the 1990s grand tourer, with a modernized front end featuring a blacked-out grille, carbon-fiber splitter, and refined hood scoop. New headlights and additional air intakes sharpen the look, while the sides get fresh door skins and quarter panels. The rear is the star, ditching the original fixed roof for a Porsche 911-inspired targa top with removable panels that stow in the trunk. A new rear window and leather-trimmed storage area sit below LED taillights that add a contemporary flair.

Inside, the cabin blends plush leather with exposed aluminum, staying true to the Ferrari 550’s grand-touring ethos while updating materials and finishes. This is the third iteration of the Veloce12 in two years, following the Coupe and Barchetta variants. Production is strictly limited, and pricing hasn’t been announced—though expect a figure that places it among the most exclusive collections. Underneath, the car retains the Ferrari 550’s front-engine layout, a testament to the model’s enduring appeal as a base for restomods.
