Mexican Class 8 Truck Production Accelerates Further

Mexican commercial vehicle production doubled year over year in August to 16,389 trucks and buses, driven by increased U.S. freight demand. Year-to-date output reached 101,940 vehicles, exceeding 2025’s pace for the first time. Freightliner, International, and Kenworth accounted for 96.7% of the heavy-duty vehicles built in Mexico in August. Volvo Group plans to ramp up Volvo and Mack truck production in Monterrey, while International is considering a second shift in San Antonio. Mexican truck and bus exports rose 116.7% to 14,130 in August, with the United States accounting for over 90% of exports. Freightliner built 10,240 trucks in August, a 133.1% increase from the year-ago period, while International produced 4,525 trucks, a 100.8% increase. Paccar’s Kenworth built 1,087 trucks, an 8.5% rise from the year-ago period. The increased production is attributed to the rebound in the freight market, with demand in the United States continuing to grow.
