Tesla has unveiled its second-generation Roadster for the second time, nearly a decade after the first version was promised and never delivered. The company is once again asking customers for up to $250,000 upfront — the full price of the top Founders Series version at the time — but the reservation agreement makes clear that Tesla cannot guarantee when, or even if, the vehicle will be delivered. The document states that the Roadster is still under development, so any purchase price discussed is merely an estimate and features or specifications could change before production. Tesla notes it is still deciding which options, features, and hardware the car will have, and that full pricing will only be available when customers are invited to configure their vehicles. Production is currently estimated to begin in 2028, though nearly every new product from the company has been delayed, and the previous Roadster never reached production at all. On a somewhat positive note, reservations are non-transferable but Tesla is not including a no-resale clause like it did with the Cybertruck Foundation Series and Model S Signature Edition specials, meaning buyers could resell if the promises don’t materialize. Reservations are also fully refundable — a detail customers should keep in mind given Tesla’s track record with the original Roadster.
