Bosch has pulled the cover off the latest generation of its popular Active Line Plus electric bicycle motor, delivering increased power, reduced weight, and a smaller footprint to one of its most widely used drive systems. Tailored primarily for everyday riders, commuters, and recreational cyclists, the new motor handles everything from city streets to weekend trail rides.

The updated Active Line Plus cranks out up to 600 watts of peak power, 50 Nm of torque (note: article text says 60 Nm of torque), and a maximum pedal assistance level of 340%, providing a solid boost when accelerating from traffic lights or climbing hills. Like its predecessor, it is built for Class 1 electric bicycles in the US, delivering pedal assist up to 20 mph (32 km/h) without a throttle.

Beyond performance gains, Bosch re-engineered the physical design using a new two-stage gearbox that cuts the motor’s overall volume by 17% and shaves approximately 1.1 lb (0.5 kg) off the weight. The drive unit tips the scales at around 6 lb (2.7 kg), allowing bicycle manufacturers to integrate it into slimmer, more traditional frames.

Specially machined gears keep the motor virtually silent, while updated sensors and software ensure smoother, natural-feeling pedal assistance. The motor also supports Bosch’s eShift electronic shifting system for automated gear changes, alongside improved sealing and bearings for all-weather durability.

Its housing incorporates roughly 40% recycled aluminum to lower production carbon footprints. Trek will serve as the first North American brand to feature the new Active Line Plus motor on its Marlin+ electric bike.

Alongside the motor, Bosch introduced several ecosystem updates, including a compact LED Controller that is 65% smaller than before, an updated ConnectModule featuring Bluetooth-based theft tracking, a new 720 Wh PowerTube battery weighing 8.6 lb (3.9 kg), and an Intuvia 200 display featuring a 2.4-inch grayscale screen.
