India has initiated an anti-dumping investigation into imports of resorcinol, a key chemical used in tire and rubber manufacturing, from China and Japan. The probe was launched by the Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) following a petition by Atul Ltd, which claims to be the sole producer of resorcinol in India. Atul alleges that dumped imports of the product have caused material injury to the domestic industry and has sought the imposition of anti-dumping duties. The investigation will examine imports over the period 2022-23 to 2025-26 and will assess the existence, degree, and effect of alleged dumping. Resorcinol is widely used as an intermediate in the production of tire and rubber goods, as well as in resin bonding and other industrial applications.
