Ford F-150 pickups with Pro Power Onboard gain a new GenerLink transfer switch for whole-home backup power

Ford is rolling out a new GenerLink transfer switch designed to pair with the Pro Power Onboard system on F-150 pickups, turning the truck into a seamless whole-home backup power source. Developed with Global Power Products, the switch eliminates the need for messy extension cords by creating a direct 240-volt connection between the F-150’s Pro Power Onboard outlet and the home’s electrical panel via the utility meter.

Once installed, the switch automatically energizes the main panel, allowing critical systems—lights, Wi-Fi, outlets, furnaces, security systems, and other hardwired appliances—to operate normally within the vehicle’s wattage limits. The system is compatible with 2021–2026 Ford F-150 PowerBoost hybrid and 2022–2025 F-150 Lightning models.

Ford estimates that PowerBoost hybrids can power an average home for up to five days, while the F-150 Lightning can last two to three days, depending on usage. Installation requires a bundle including the GenerLink transfer switch, GenerLok cord, and Ford Vehicle Connector, priced around $1,100, with professional installation typically adding $250 to $450.

Costs may rise to $1,000–$1,500 if local utility regulations require alternative transfer switch setups. Over 800 U.S. utility companies already approve direct meter-mount installation of the GenerLink system, streamlining adoption for F-150 owners looking to enhance their emergency power capabilities.
