The food industry is warning that prices will go up for the rest of the year due to inflation, tariffs, and higher input costs. Companies such as Conagra, Campbell’s, and Clorox have announced or signaled price increases, with Campbell’s planning to raise prices by 4% to 5% on roughly 60% of its products. The price increases are due to rising energy, fertilizer, and transportation costs, as well as potential El Niño disruptions. Retailers will decide how much of the increases to absorb, while companies and shoppers seek ways to manage higher grocery costs. The price increases won’t hit supermarket shelves immediately or all at once, but the trend will put pressure on President Donald Trump, who campaigned on promises to make groceries more affordable. Grocery prices have continued rising since Trump took office, reaching a record-high level in June, and remain elevated despite some stabilization in recent months.
