Covestro has completed the acquisition of two production sites for hexamethylene diisocyanate (HDI) derivatives in Thailand and the US. The transaction, which was completed on 1 July, covers the former Vencorex facilities in Rayong, Thailand, and Freeport, Texas. The acquired plants produce HDI derivatives used in high-performance polyurethane coatings, adhesives, and sealants for various applications, including automotive, infrastructure, marine, wood furniture, and electronics. This acquisition complements Covestro’s existing HDI derivatives production network across Europe, Asia, and North America, improving supply resilience and supporting long-term growth. The purchase is part of the company’s strategy to expand its coatings and adhesives business, following its earlier purchase of DSM’s ‘resins & functional materials’ business.
