The global rubber and tire sector saw mixed performance over the past week, with share prices fluctuating among major manufacturers. Bridgestone’s stock rose 2.0% to ¥3,392, while Goodyear gained 3.2% to $6.07. Hankook climbed 1.9% to KRW63,000, but Michelin dipped 1.4% to €30.75. Nokian Tyres surged 4.9% to €10.81, and Pirelli added 3.5% to €6.27. Sumitomo Rubber (SRI) jumped 4.7% to ¥2,034, though Yokohama Rubber (YRC) dropped 9.2% to ¥6,938. ZC Rubber fell 1.5% to CNY46.58. Among rubber product makers, Cooper-Standard led gains with a 9.4% rise to $29.93, while Top Glove slid 3.7% to MYR0.78. Natural rubber futures softened across exchanges, with Osaka’s RSS3 September 2026 contract down 2.0% to ¥400.8, and Shanghai’s SCR/RSS September 2026 down 2.5% to CNY17,350. Weak overseas demand and long liquidation pressured prices, though full-scale production is expected to resume in key growing regions. Financial results varied: JK Tyre reported $1.746 billion in sales for FY26 (up 11%) and $222 million in earnings (up 25%). Hankook’s tire business Q1/26 revenue hit KRW2.57 trillion (up 9.3%) with KRW437.5 billion in operating income (up 31%). Sumitomo Rubber’s group Q1/26 sales reached ¥302 billion (up 5.0%), with tire division earnings at ¥14.8 billion (up 35.0%). Semperit posted €163.7 million in Q1/26 sales (up 7.9%) and €26.8 million in EBITDA (up 141%). Capacity expansions included Continental’s €300m+ Thailand plant upgrade adding 3 million units/year of PC/LT tires and 600 jobs, while Linglong Tire canceled a ¥8.7 billion (€1 billion) project in Brazil. Pirelli announced plans to produce ‘cyber tires’ in Rome, Georgia, and Service Long March Tyres secured PKR22.5 billion for a new PCR tire plant in Pakistan. Recovery signals emerged in Europe as Sentury Tire noted improving orders post-EU anti-dumping measures on Chinese imports, while PCBL Chemical reported a rebound in rubber carbon black demand amid shifting supply chain strategies.
