Huawei-backed luxury brand Maextro is gearing up to launch an ultra-luxury SUV that directly challenges the Rolls-Royce Cullinan, but U.S. buyers will only ever see it in photos. Codenamed X800, the upcoming model borrows heavily from the S800 sedan, which has already disrupted the Chinese luxury market by undercutting Rolls-Royce and Maybach on price while packing in tech. The S800 sold over 17,000 units in its first year by offering HarmonyOS-powered infotainment, augmented reality head-up displays, and a price starting at ¥708,000 ($104,000), far below European rivals.

Now Maextro is taking the same formula to the SUV segment with a bold, 5.5-metre-long design that screams for attention. The X800’s exterior features rose gold highlights, two-tone paint, a grille-less front dominated by ‘C-clamp’ headlamps and dual-layer crystal DRLs, and Galaxy-branded dual-million-pixel lighting elements that project celestial patterns. A LiDAR pod sits atop the roof like a London Taxi, while the rear end sports a slim, full-width LED tail lamp cluster with multilayer projection and rose gold appliqués.
Inside, the cabin blends luxury with tech overload, featuring three HarmonyOS displays (driver, infotainment, and passenger) in a single panel, a large augmented reality head-up display, and a panoramic roof that scatters constellation-like lighting. Surfaces are trimmed in leather, chrome, or crystal, with ambient lighting, at least 43 speakers, zero-gravity rear seats, and a fold-down TV screen for rear-seat entertainment. Powertrain options include a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and a fully electric setup.

The PHEV uses a 1.5-litre four-cylinder gasoline engine as a generator paired with a dual-motor setup producing 523 horsepower, with a tri-motor version pushing output to 852 horsepower. The PHEV battery is rated at least 65 kWh, while the all-electric version matches the 523 hp output but packs a 95 kWh battery for a CLTC range of up to 435 miles (700 km). DC fast charging can take the EV from 10% to 80% in just 12 minutes.

The X800 targets a roster of ultra-luxury rivals, including the Rolls-Royce Cullinan, Bentley Bentayga, Mercedes-Maybach GLS, Range Rover, Genesis GV90, Zeekr 9X, and BYD’s Yangwang U8. Production is handled by JAC Motors in China, with an official reveal expected in the coming months. Pricing remains unconfirmed, but industry watchers expect it to start above the S800’s ¥708,000 ($104,000) base price, positioning it well below the Rolls-Royce Ghost’s ¥5,030,000 ($738,600) in China.

Even at a projected $120,000 starting point, the X800 would undercut the BMW iX and X7 in China, not to mention the Cullinan, which exceeds $1 million in the Chinese market after taxes. The Maextro X800 isn’t just another aspirational SUV—it’s a statement. By leveraging Huawei’s tech ecosystem and aggressive pricing, Maextro is betting that Chinese buyers will trade Rolls-Royce’s heritage for a high-tech, high-style alternative that delivers 90% of the luxury for a fraction of the cost.
