Hyundai Hybrid Sales Surge 90% as Gas Prices Soar Past $4 a Gallon

Hyundai’s hybrid and electric vehicle sales have seen a significant boost in May, with hybrid sales jumping 90% and EV sales up 10%. The national average price of a gallon of regular gasoline is $4.29, with some states like California paying over $6 per gallon.

The Ioniq 5 had its best May ever, with sales increasing by 28% to 5,002 units. The Sonata Hybrid saw a 250% increase in sales, while the Santa Fe, Elantra, and Tucson hybrids also experienced gains.

Overall, Hyundai sales were up 3% to 87,468 units, with the Tucson being the top-selling model. The Ioniq 6 sales fell 85% to 176 units, while the Santa Cruz and Venue saw declines in sales.
