American Truck Simulator welcomes Volvo VNL and VNR Electric trucks

Volvo Trucks North America has expanded its partnership with SCS Software to bring the latest Volvo VNL and VNR Electric models into American Truck Simulator. The update went live on July 8, 2026, adding two new drivable trucks to the popular simulation game. Volvo said the in-game models are built using real design data and real-world testing to ensure accurate performance and handling, aiming to engage future drivers and technicians. The company sees the game as a way to complement industry training and preview upcoming truck launches with digital versions customers can test immediately. Peter Voorhoeve, president of Volvo Trucks North America, called the move an exciting way to introduce its trucks to a passionate community that values authentic driving experiences. Brian Balicki, head of design for trucks technology and industrial division at VTNA, highlighted the role of gaming in inspiring careers, noting that many technical experts start with games before entering the industry. The VNL and VNR Electric were recreated in the game using the same digital data used to design the physical trucks, developed in Greensboro, North Carolina. Developers captured real-world testing data from Dublin, Va., including multiple sleeper configurations, each with distinct driving characteristics and sound profiles. The simulation captures textures, materials, sounds, ambient lighting, aerodynamics, and fuel economy. While the game doesn’t replace real-world instruction, Volvo sees it as a steppingstone into the industry, especially as trucking becomes more digital. The company also envisions future truck launches with immediate digital availability for customers to test drive virtually.
