3M has inked a multi-year deal to serve as the official materials science partner of the Cadillac Formula 1 Team, the Minnesota-based conglomerate announced on 30 June. The collaboration will focus on lightweight materials, bonding and surface-prep tech, manufacturing optimization, lab testing and trackside technical support. 3M’s chairman and CEO William Brown framed the tie-up as leveraging the company’s science and manufacturing chops to solve tough problems in a high-stakes environment. “This partnership demonstrates how our technologies can drive results in a highly demanding environment by advancing speed, efficiency and performance,” Brown said. Wendy Bauer, 3M’s group president of transportation and electronics, added that Formula 1 is one of the most punishing proving grounds for materials anywhere, and working with Cadillac lets the supplier push boundaries it can later translate into broader applications. The pact covers material selection, process optimization, testing and simulation, plus real-time engineering support during race weekends. Cadillac’s F1 squad, launched by TWG Motorsports and General Motors, is scheduled to debut on the grid in 2026.
