A heavily modified 1993 GMC Typhoon is up for grabs on Cars & Bids, and it’s packing 682 horsepower at the wheels thanks to a turbocharged 4.3-liter V6, nitrous assist, and a serious wheel and tire package. The Durango Hellcat may be the new kid on the block with its supercharged 6.2-liter V8 making 710 HP and 645 lb-ft of torque, but this Typhoon is no slouch—especially when it’s running mid-10-second quarter miles even at high elevation in Montana. The Durango SRT Hellcat starts at $81,990 with destination, but this Typhoon’s price is anyone’s guess. Stock Typhoons usually trade around $20,000, but this one’s a project with no rear doors, no third row, no factory warranty, and no tow rating. The seller claims the Typhoon’s power output at the crank is unknown, but even conservative estimates suggest it could outrun the Durango Hellcat in a straight line. The owner hasn’t bothered with a 0-60 time, but the quarter-mile performance speaks for itself. Buying a 30-year-old project SUV is always a gamble, but if you’re chasing a Durango Hellcat-killer on a budget, this Typhoon might just be the wild card you need.
