Ford opens preorder invites for the $30,000 Fathom EV pickup

Ford is now accepting sign-ups for preorder invites for the upcoming Ford Fathom EV pickup, which starts at $28,350 for the standard range battery model. Including the $1,595 destination fee, the truck will start at under $30,000. Official preorders will open in early 2027.

The Fathom is the first model based on Ford’s new Universal Electric Vehicle platform, promising a major step forward from first-generation EVs. While full specs like driving range and towing capacity have not been announced yet, Ford states the Fathom will offer more passenger room than a Toyota RAV4, excluding the frunk and truck bed. Ford also claims it will cost less to own over five years than a three-year-old used Tesla Model Y.

Inside, the cabin features a large touchscreen display with direct Apple Maps integration into the navigation system. Standard features include a Digital Key, Ford app remote control, and support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. All models will feature BlueCruise capability for hands-free highway driving and bidirectional charging.

The truck uses cobalt-free and nickel-free lithium iron phosphate batteries serving as the vehicle floor to cut costs and weight, lower the center of gravity, and increase interior space. Ford promises engaging driving dynamics with instant torque and a targeted 0-60 mph time as fast as a Mustang EcoBoost. The Fathom is described as a midsize four-door electric pickup, though prototypes spotted testing resemble the size of a Maverick compact truck.

Final dimensions will be released closer to launch. The truck will feature an NACS charging port. Production is scheduled to begin in 2027 at the Louisville Assembly Plant, with deliveries starting later that year.
