Tyres Europe has welcomed the European Commission’s draft revisions to the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) and called for “swift adoption” of the regulation to bring about certainty in the industry. The association supports the proposed approach to tire retreading, which would limit the scope of the regulation to tire treads, and excludes used tire casings and retreaded tires themselves. This approach is seen as a constructive and proportionate step towards improving the operability and legal certainty of the EUDR. Tyres Europe also welcomed the proposed clarification excluding products intended exclusively for testing, examination and analysis, as well as the broader clarifications on used and second-hand products and waste. The association is calling for the swift adoption and publication of the delegated regulation before the summer break to support legal certainty and implementation readiness. Rapid finalisation of the text would provide the necessary legal certainty for operators currently adapting internal systems and compliance procedures in preparation for the application of the regulation.
