The 10-Foot-Wide M3² Isn’t Photoshopped, But It Isn’t a BMW Either

You’re not hallucinating: the four-grille M3² is a real rolling car, and the seats are the least bizarre thing about it.

Despite wearing the visual DNA of a BMW M3, this wide-body sedan is actually built on a Volkswagen Lamando L platform and runs a 1.4-litre inline-four instead of the G80 M3’s twin-turbo straight-six.

Up front, the build slaps on four oversized blacked-out kidney grilles lifted from the G80 M3, giving the car a face only a mother could love.

The rest of the bodywork is a mix of M3 cues—headlights and taillights that ape the real thing—and the Lamando’s roofline and tailgate, so the illusion starts to crack at the rear.

Inside, the cabin is essentially stock Lamando, save for a taped-over VW roundel on the steering wheel and a new wide screen aimed at the front passenger.

The powertrain is pure VW: a 1.4-litre four-cylinder engine sits where the G80 M3’s 3.0-litre twin-turbo inline-six should be.

Weight figures aren’t listed, but the Lamando’s original shell could reportedly haul up to ten people; the interior has since been gutted and stuffed with beanbags, so the joke remains intact.

The whole contraption is the handiwork of an unknown builder who decided a 10-foot-wide Lamando wasn’t ridiculous enough, so they turned it into an M3²—BMW styling on a VW chassis, a rolling meme that somehow keeps running.
