Einride orders 500 Tesla Semi electric trucks for North American freight push

Swedish autonomous logistics specialist Einride has placed the largest order to date for Tesla’s Semi electric truck, committing to 500 units for its North American fleet over the next two years. The phased deployment begins next month, with trucks entering service for customers including Amazon across key freight corridors. The deal will triple Einride’s deployed fleet and marks Tesla’s push beyond pilot projects into commercial freight operations despite broader industry adoption challenges. Tesla is scaling Semi production at its Nevada factory for 2026, while Einride—already operating its own self-driving truck platform—will integrate the Semis into its autonomous and electric mobility ecosystem. The Semi itself has faced years of delays since its 2017 unveiling and initial 2019 production target, finally reaching its first major customer, PepsiCo, in late 2022. High vehicle costs and sparse charging infrastructure continue to slow electric truck adoption across the sector. Einride reported H1 2026 revenue of $27 million, up 26% year-over-year, with 500 Tesla Semis signed and driverless hours up 64%, targeting breakeven in 2028.
