McMurtry Automotive has officially launched the production version of its electric hypercar, the Spéirling, with a price tag of $1.3 million. Weighing in at 2,980 pounds, the Spéirling is a track-focused beast that delivers a staggering 4,400 pounds of downforce at the push of a button. The car’s Downforce-on-Demand system uses two fans spinning up to 23,000 rpm to create a vacuum-sealed grip, allowing it to stick to the road even when stationary.

This fan-based setup, which generates a jet-engine-like roar, enables the Spéirling to pull 3g under cornering and braking. Power comes from two electric motors producing 1,000 horsepower, making it a formidable hill-climb and time-attack machine. The production model has been significantly reworked from the prototype to improve usability and comfort for its deep-pocketed owners.

It’s now 11% longer, 14% wider, and features a 10% longer wheelbase to accommodate a larger 100 kWh battery (replacing the prototype’s 60 kWh unit) and a more spacious cabin. McMurtry also offers bespoke, body-molded seats for each owner. Charging is rapid, with the ability to go from 20% to 95% in just 20 minutes under ideal conditions.

An optional portable 100 kWh battery pack is available for those worried about range. The Spéirling’s fan system isn’t just for show—it’s a technological throwback to the 1970 Chaparral 2J and the 1978 Brabham BT46B, both of which were eventually banned in motorsport. Now, McMurtry is bringing the concept to the mainstream with a street-legal, track-focused hypercar that could dominate time-attack championships worldwide.

Former F1 driver Max Chilton set a hill-climb record at Goodwood in 2022 and another at Laguna Seca’s Corkscrew in 2024 behind the wheel of the Spéirling prototype. The production car retains the prototype’s record-smashing potential while adding practical touches like more durable fans, adjustable side skirts for easier trailer loading, and a fan rev paddle on the steering wheel for that extra bit of theater.
