Quick oil change chains are gaining ground on dealerships, according to the J.D. Power 2026 U.S. Aftermarket Service Index (ASI) Study. The annual survey ranks aftermarket service providers across three segments: quick oil change, tire and wheel maintenance, and full-service repairs.

It evaluates seven factors: ease of scheduling, fair pricing, advisor courtesy, advisor performance, service facilities, time to finish the service, and work quality. Speed and affordability are the top priorities for car owners, with fewer than 17% of dealer service centers able to complete basic servicing in an hour, compared to 49% of aftermarket shops.

Express Oil Change & Tire Engineers has topped the quick oil change segment for the fourth consecutive year, thanks to its 10-minute drive-in oil change promise. Take 5 secured second place, while Jiffy Lube and Valvoline Instant Oil Change tied for third.
Founded in Birmingham, Alabama, in 1979 by Jim Lunceford, Express Oil Change & Tire Engineers now operates 429 centers across 19 states. The chain expanded beyond oil changes to include tire services, reflected in its rebranding, though it does not lead the tire maintenance segment—where Meineke Car Care Centers ranks highest, followed by Pep Boys and Discount Tire.

In the full-service repair segment, Goodyear Auto Service leads, with Tuffy Tire and Auto Service Centers in second place, while Christian Brothers Automotive dropped to third after holding the top spot in 2024 and 2025.
