Danilo Petrucci is set to make his comeback to the FIM Superbike World Championship (WorldSBK) at Donington Park this July, following a fractured coccyx injury sustained at the Czech Republic’s Most circuit. The Italian rider will rejoin the ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team for the Donington round, scheduled from 10th to 12th July, after positive test laps aboard the BMW M 1000 RR confirmed his readiness. Petrucci’s return follows teammate Miguel Oliveira’s earlier comeback at Misano, where the Portuguese rider returned from serious shoulder injuries suffered at Hungary’s Balaton Park Circuit in early May. Oliveira’s recovery allowed him to compete at Misano, while Petrucci’s home event came too soon after his injuries. The team has endured a challenging stretch, with Michael van der Mark and Hannes Soomer stepping in as substitutes for three events and one event respectively. Now, both regular riders are expected to be back in action at Donington. A test at Donington Park yielded encouraging results, with Petrucci’s feedback and lap times providing optimism for the upcoming races. Sven Blusch, Head of BMW Motorrad Motorsport, expressed confidence in Petrucci’s recovery and the team’s preparation, while Shaun Muir, Team Principal of the ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team, praised Petrucci’s positive attitude and commitment during the test. Petrucci himself described the test as a crucial moment, highlighting his comfort on the bike and the joy of working with his crew again. The team’s medical staff and substitute riders were also acknowledged for their contributions during the difficult period.
