Summer tires are often an option on sportier cars, but most cars come with all-season tires due to their versatility in handling various road conditions.

However, for those who prioritize grip over comfort, there are several top summer tire options to consider.

According to comparison tests by Tire Rack and Consumer Reports, the top summer tires include the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S, Continental ExtremeContact Sport 02, General G-MAX RS, Bridgestone Potenza Sport, and Firestone Firehawk Indy 500.
While the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S has a slight edge in terms of grip, with 1.01g of cornering force compared to the Continental’s 0.99g, the Continental ExtremeContact Sport 02 excels in lap times, both in dry and wet conditions.
The General G-MAX RS is also a strong performer, offering a great value with its lower price point of $167.99, which is 27% less than the Continental and 44% less than the Michelin.

The Continental ExtremeContact Sport 02, priced at $212.99, and the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S, priced at $241.99, are superior in terms of performance, but the General G-MAX RS is a reasonable alternative for those on a budget.
In terms of comfort and predictable stickiness, the General G-MAX RS and the Continental ExtremeContact Sport 02 are strong contenders, with the General scoring well in Tire Rack’s “Real World Road Ride Ratings” index.

Ultimately, the choice of summer tire depends on individual priorities, with the Michelin and Continental offering superior performance, but at a higher cost, and the General G-MAX RS providing a great value alternative.
