Georgia Governor Brian Kemp has extended the state’s motor fuel tax suspension through November 30, providing relief to motorists ahead of Thanksgiving travel. The suspension, which was first issued on September 28 and extended on October 6, covers state excise taxes on fuel. As of October 26, diesel prices in Georgia averaged $5.69 per gallon, 44% higher than a year earlier. The national average was 11% higher. Kemp’s decision aims to keep more money in Georgians’ pockets, citing the state’s commitment to fiscal responsibility. The suspension applies to diesel and gasoline, with a per-gallon motor fuel excise tax of 37.3 cents for diesel and 33.3 cents for gasoline. Ohio’s temporary suspension of state motor fuel taxes continues through January 2, while North Carolina’s suspension runs through November 30. Diesel prices in Ohio and North Carolina were up 55% and 46% year over year, respectively, as of October 26.
