Michigan has introduced a commemorative license plate to celebrate the nation’s 250th anniversary, with a one-time fee of $55.

The plate’s design is inspired by the state’s 1976 bicentennial plate and features a red, white, and blue color scheme with four stars and two stripes. In the first six months of being on sale, 34,160 plates have been sold.
Of the $55 fee, $5 covers the service charge for the plate, while the remaining $50 goes to the Michigan Transportation Fund for road construction and repairs. A $10 renewal fee applies for each additional year the plate is kept in service. The plate is available for purchase until the end of the year.
Additionally, Michigan has launched five new plates to honor historically black sororities and fraternities, which are available exclusively to members of these organizations for a fee of $25.
