The Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team has published its 2025 Sustainability Report, showcasing a landmark year in its push to become one of the most sustainable professional sports teams globally. The team achieved a 54% reduction in “Race Team Control” emissions compared to its 2022 baseline by scaling up the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAFc), proving that business growth no longer requires rising emissions. In 2025 alone, “Race Team Control” emissions fell by 28% versus 2024, while total emissions dropped 15%, demonstrating the tangible impact of its decarbonization strategy. Over the 2022–2025 period, the team cut air travel emissions by 30,688 tCO₂e through SAFc adoption, including 11,504 tCO₂e saved in 2025. Ground logistics also went electric: the Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 transported race cars to a European Grand Prix using 100% HVO100 renewable diesel for the European season. On the technical front, the team debuted a bio-based carbon-fiber composite in a performance-critical component, marking a first for Formula 1. The report highlights the successful completion of the five-year “Accelerate 25” diversity program, with 37.8% of new hires in 2025 coming from underrepresented groups. Philanthropic efforts hit a record, surpassing £500,000 in charitable donations since 2020 across 70 local, national, and international projects. At its Brackley headquarters, the team now sources 100% renewable electricity certified via REGOs, slashed gas consumption by 49% since 2022 (from 1.4 million kWh to 732,000 kWh), and became the first F1 squad to earn ISCC+ certification for cured composite components. The 2025 Sustainability Report also unveils the team’s first Net Zero roadmap, charting a clear path to absolute zero emissions across all operations by 2040. Toto Wolff, Team Principal and CEO, emphasized that sustainability and performance are now inseparable: “In 2025 we made significant investments in new materials, efficiency gains, and scaling sustainable solutions. Innovation drives performance and shapes the future of our sport. These investments are grounded in a solid business case and executed by a team that knows how to move fast. While our race cars demand peak performance, we’ve repeatedly seen that our sustainability innovations deliver benefits that extend far beyond the grid.” The team’s sustainability framework rests on four pillars: reducing the global operational footprint through SAFc and renewable logistics; fostering an inclusive culture at home via diversity hiring and community giving; embedding sustainability into race cars and trackside initiatives; and embedding long-term Net Zero planning. The report underscores how Formula 1 serves as a high-speed laboratory for testing and scaling green technologies that later trickle down to road cars and society at large.
