Retro revivals from automotive brands are growing increasingly popular, with manufacturers drawing on their heritage to combat new Chinese market entrants. Recent examples include models like the Citroën 2CV, Peugeot e-T16, Alpine A310, and Renault Espace. While the Citroën 2CV is a famous and fondly remembered classic, other revivals look back at much more niche machines. The Peugeot 205 T16 and Alpine A310 were relatively niche sports cars, and while the original Renault Espace was a revolutionary MPV, the average car buyer may not remember its significance, especially as the MPV class remains largely overlooked in favor of SUVs. Unlike mainstream icons such as the Mini, Fiat 500, Renault 4, and Renault 5, these niche models do not tap into widespread mass nostalgia. However, enthusiasts still welcome manufacturers acknowledging arcane sports models from the past. The British motorbike industry faced a similar situation when it was heavily impacted by reliable, affordable Japanese bikes in the 1960s and 1970s. Decades later, top-selling British motorcycle brands rely heavily on retro models, such as the Triumph Bonneville and Royal Enfield Classic 350, proving that a heritage-focused strategy can succeed over the long term.
