A Prince George’s County, Maryland, driver’s attempt to shift blame after running a red light and T-boning another vehicle at a busy Bowie intersection backfired spectacularly thanks to dashcam footage. On May 22, 2026, a driver heading southbound on US-301 at the intersection with Ballpark Road/Heritage Boulevard had the green light, while cross traffic—including a silver Chevrolet Malibu—was stopped at a red. The Malibu driver, proceeding against the red signal, T-boned a dark Nissan Rogue attempting a left turn, sending the Rogue nearly onto its side. The collision was severe enough to total the Malibu and deploy the Rogue’s airbags, leaving its driver trapped inside. The Rogue’s driver, who had attempted the left turn on red too late, initially tried to blame the Malibu driver when police arrived. However, the Malibu driver—who had recorded the entire incident on dashcam—presented the footage to officers, immediately exonerating the innocent victim. The Malibu driver recounted to Reddit that when informed about the dashcam, the Rogue driver’s demeanor changed abruptly, shifting from distress to visible relief. Police later contacted the Malibu driver as an official witness and requested the footage directly. In Maryland, running a red light is typically classified as a 3-point moving violation with fines ranging from $100 to $150, not including court fees, surcharges, or potential additional citations like negligent operation if an accident results. The incident highlights the growing role of in-car cameras in resolving traffic disputes and the legal consequences of disregarding traffic signals.
