Ferrari’s CEO, Benedetto Vigna, has moved to calm fears among traditionalists by confirming the Italian supercar maker will continue producing internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles alongside hybrids and full EVs. Speaking to Australia’s Drive, Vigna stressed that Ferrari’s strategy is to offer customers a choice across three powertrain types—internal combustion, hybrid, and electric—so buyers can select whatever matches their preference. The reassurance comes just weeks after Ferrari unveiled the Luce, its first all-electric model, which has sparked controversy among enthusiasts. A former Ferrari boss publicly criticized the Luce, warning it could “destroy a legend,” while Vigna has been defending the model’s place in the lineup.

Vigna pointed out that some prospective clients have made it clear they would only consider buying a Ferrari if an EV option were available, prompting the company to respond. “If you wait for the client to ask for that, it’s too late,” he said. The Luce packs four electric motors producing up to 1,050 horsepower, catapulting it from 0–62 mph in 2.5 seconds, to 124 mph in 6.8 seconds, and on to a top speed of 192 mph. Despite its blistering performance, the Luce’s styling has drawn criticism for straying from Ferrari’s traditional design language.

Vigna emphasized that Ferrari’s identity isn’t tied to any single technology, as long as the final product captures the passion and emotion that define the brand. “I think that it does not matter which technology you use, as long as you deliver something that the people are in love with,” he said. The Luce represents just one model in Ferrari’s broader strategy, which includes a mix of powertrains across its supercar portfolio. Ferrari insists the Luce isn’t the sole future of the brand but rather one option among many, leaving customers free to choose based on their preferences.
