A crossing guard in Philadelphia’s Kingsessing neighborhood, Jamele Ransom, witnessed a massive vehicle collision in early May and sprang into action to help those in need. The crash involved a stolen utility truck, driven by 18-year-old Robert Littlepage Jr. of Georgia, which slammed into an elementary school playground after hitting a grey Subaru.

Ransom, who was in a shady area trying to keep cool in the 82-degree heat, described the scene as ‘madness’ and said he was lucky not to have been trapped in the collision. He pulled a child out of one of the cars hit in the crash and helped others to safety.

Despite the chaos, Ransom remained calm and was later treated to an ice cream cone, which he enjoyed during an interview with NBC10. The driver of the utility truck, Littlepage, was charged with robbery, carjacking, and aggravated assault, and was also reportedly arrested for two burglaries nearby.

Ransom expressed his gratitude to be alive and thanked Jesus, and also gave a shoutout to Philadelphia’s Mister Softee, the ice cream he was eating during the interview. The incident highlights the importance of quick thinking and selfless actions in emergency situations, and Ransom’s heroism has been recognized by the community.
