Agility Robotics, the Oregon-based maker of the humanoid warehouse robot Digit, announced on June 24, 2026, that it will go public through a merger with a special-purpose acquisition company (SPAC), valuing the firm at $2.5 billion. The move marks the first time a company entirely focused on humanoid robots will trade on Wall Street, testing investor appetite for AI-powered machines designed to tackle labor shortages in industrial settings. The deal is expected to close by the end of 2026, as Agility scales production and rolls out next-gen Digit models engineered to collaborate safely with human workers in warehouses and manufacturing plants.
Digit, Agility’s flagship product, is already deployed in commercial operations, including facilities run by Amazon, Toyota, and Mercado Libre. The robot is engineered to handle repetitive, physically demanding tasks—such as lifting and moving heavy bins and totes—that are often hazardous or undesirable for human workers. Unlike traditional industrial robots, which require isolation due to speed and force, newer versions of Digit are designed to operate alongside humans without barriers, thanks to advanced safety systems and adaptive mobility.
The company’s co-founder and chief robot officer, Jonathan Hurst, clarified that Digit’s design prioritizes function over human-like aesthetics. While competitors like Tesla’s Optimus prototype aim for a more anthropomorphic appearance, Digit features bird-like legs and claw-like hands optimized for industrial tasks rather than mimicking human form. Hurst emphasized that the robot’s design was never intended to replicate a person but to excel in specific work environments.
Agility’s CEO, Peggy Johnson, highlighted the growing demand for such automation, citing factors like reshoring production, an aging workforce, and younger generations avoiding manual labor jobs. The company’s investor backing includes Amazon, Nvidia, SoftBank, and Foxconn, reflecting strong confidence in its technology. With early adopters already integrating Digit into their operations, Agility is positioning itself at the forefront of the humanoid robotics revolution in logistics and manufacturing.
