The 2026 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X has just rewritten the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb record for production cars, shattering the previous benchmark by a staggering 23 seconds. Behind the wheel, JR Hildebrand piloted the all-wheel-drive, 1,250-horsepower Corvette to an official time of 9 minutes 30.104 seconds up the 12.42-mile course, eclipsing the outright production-car record of 9:53 previously held by AMG.

The ZR1X wasn’t just targeting a class win—it aimed for the top of the mountain outright, and Hildebrand delivered in emphatic fashion. The car’s Nurburgring lap time of 6 minutes 49.275 seconds already hinted at its prodigious pace, but Pikes Peak demanded something even more extreme.

The course’s 156 turns, rapid altitude gain from 9,400 to 14,105 feet, and unpredictable weather made it a uniquely brutal challenge. Thin air at elevation robs engines of power, and a single mistake can send a car tumbling down the mountain.

Yet the ZR1X handled it with authority, proving once again that America’s Sports Car is capable of global benchmarks. With no fatalities reported during this year’s event, the focus rightly stays on the record-breaking performance—a statement that a 1,250-HP AWD Corvette can conquer even the most fearsome hill climbs in the world.
