Toyota has once again secured the top spot in iSeeCars’ annual Longest-Lasting Cars Study, with an impressive 17.8% of its vehicles predicted to reach 250,000 miles or more. This marks a significant lead over other manufacturers, with Toyota’s luxury division, Lexus, coming in second with a 12.8% chance. Honda and its luxury counterpart, Acura, round out the top four, all exceeding the industry average predicted lifespan likelihood of 4.8%.
According to iSeeCars Executive Analyst Karl Brauer, the strong performance of Japanese brands like Toyota, Lexus, Honda, and Acura is a testament to their well-earned reputation for quality and durability. The study analyzed data from over 174 million vehicles to determine these rankings.
Toyota’s success is attributed to its robust lineup of SUVs and trucks, including the 4Runner, Sequoia, Tacoma, and Tundra, which consistently contribute to the brand’s longevity. Even its sedans and hybrids, such as the Avalon and Prius, are noted for their high rankings in durability.
Out of the 32 brands ranked, only these four brands surpassed the industry average. The study highlights that while modern engineering has extended vehicle lifespans, reaching a quarter-million miles remains a significant achievement for most automotive brands.
In the non-luxury segment, Toyota and Honda are the only two brands above the 5.1% average, with GMC, Chevrolet, Mazda, Ram, Ford, Dodge, Nissan, Subaru, Jeep, Mitsubishi, Kia, Hyundai, Chrysler, and Volkswagen falling below. In the luxury category, Lexus leads with a 12.8% chance, followed by Acura, Tesla, Cadillac, and Lincoln, all above the luxury average of 3.2%. The study suggests that luxury vehicles may not reach 250,000 miles as frequently due to less aggressive usage by owners rather than build quality issues.
Brands like Land Rover, Jaguar, MINI, and Maserati had a 0.0% chance of reaching 250,000 miles according to the data analyzed.
