The 2024 BMW R 18 Roctane is the fifth member of BMW’s R 18 lineup, a windshield‑free bagger that carries the brand’s classic “Big Boxer” 1802cc opposed‑twin engine. Its MSRP is $18,695. The Roctane’s wheels set it apart: custom‑style 21‑inch front and 18‑inch rear alloys replace the standard 19/16‑inch pair, lifting the seat to 28.3 inches.

The bike’s geometry is ultra‑relaxed with a 34.7‑degree rake, 7.3‑inch trail, and a standard steering stabilizer. Suspension travel matches the base R 18: 4.7 inches from the non‑adjustable fork and 3.5 inches from the spring‑preload adjustable shock. Styling nods to the 1936 R 5, featuring a 4.2‑gallon fuel tank, exposed chrome driveshaft, and an instrument cluster that sits in the headlight bucket.
The cluster offers an analog‑style speedometer, warning lights, and an LCD panel; there is no fuel gauge, only a warning light. The black mid‑rise handlebar, blacked‑out engine, and dark‑chrome exhaust give the Roctane a distinct look, while painted side cases—each 27 liters, lockable, with integrated turn signals—add to its bagger aesthetic. The cases are available in Black Storm Metallic, Mineral Gray Metallic Matte, and Manhattan Metallic Matte.

The 1802cc Big Boxer produces 91 horsepower at 4,750 rpm and 116 lb‑ft of torque at 3,000 rpm, delivering a mellow, low‑end thrum. Power is sent through a standard 6‑speed shaft drive, with a heel‑and‑toe shifter and cruise control. Rock, Roll, and Rain modes adjust throttle response, traction control, and engine compression braking.

The Roctane’s curb weight is 825 pounds, but its low center of gravity and 67.7‑inch wheelbase make it feel agile on the road. Braking is handled by 300‑mm triple‑disc brakes on all three wheels, with a rear‑only foot brake and standard ABS. The Select Package adds adaptive Headlight Pro, heated grips, and tire‑pressure monitoring; optional extras include hill‑start control, a reverse gear, and a locking fuel cap.
BMW assembles the Roctane in Berlin, positioning it as a rival to the Harley‑Davidson Road King Special for riders seeking an alternative to American V‑twin cruisers.
