Denza, BYD‘s luxury sub-brand, has announced an upcoming over-the-air (OTA) update for the discontinued N7 SUV, which will bring a low-power sentry mode that uses less battery and reduces range compared to the current system.

The update is expected to reach the N7 in 2027 and may also roll out to other Denza and BYD vehicles.

Sentry mode allows a vehicle to monitor movement and threats while parked, eliminating the need for dedicated dashcams and wiring kits.

However, the system requires the vehicle’s low-voltage systems to remain active while parked, which gradually drains the battery and reduces range during operation.

The updated sentry mode is expected to address this issue, although the exact mechanism for achieving energy savings has not been revealed.

The Denza N7 was launched in July 2023 and was offered with single-motor RWD and dual-motor AWD powertrains, with a 91.3 kWh BYD Blade battery providing a maximum CLTC range of 702 km.

The SUV features BYD’s dual-gun charging tech and DiSus-A air suspension system, and its 2025 update introduced the firm’s DiPilot 300 assisted driving system.
