Lancer X engines are mostly naturally aspirated fours (often 4B1-family and neighbours). Viscosity and approval come from the filler cap and manual for your engine code.
Checking level
Flat ground, follow the cold/hot procedure for your variant, wipe the dipstick clean. After purchase, check every 500–1,000 km at first so you learn real consumption.
Interval
Manual figures assume mild use. City and short trips age oil faster; many shops on aged cars use 7–10k km or yearly. Always replace the filter with the oil.
Consumption red flags
- Level drop in 500–1,000 km without puddles.
- Blue smoke on tip-in when hot.
- Oil on plugs, wet intake path, noisy PCV.
- Metal glitter on the drain plug or in a cut filter.
CVT fluid is a different product and schedule — never top up a CVT with engine oil. Keep a litre of the filled grade in the boot and save receipts with odometer readings.
Oil spec follows Mitsubishi docs for your VIN.
