Toyota Motor North America (TMNA) has unveiled a series of executive leadership changes effective in mid-2026, aimed at reinforcing the company’s focus on regulatory excellence, sustainability, and corporate governance. Sandra Phillips, senior vice president overseeing Enterprise Integrity, chief legal officer, corporate secretary, and chief sustainability officer, will retire on July 31, 2026, after playing a pivotal role in strengthening Toyota’s legal, regulatory, compliance, and sustainability functions during her tenure. Tom Stricker, group vice president for Regulatory Affairs and Environmental Sustainability, will retire on June 30, 2026, following a career dedicated to advancing Toyota’s environmental and regulatory strategy and fostering key stakeholder partnerships. Chris Yang, currently senior vice president of Enterprise Strategy and Solutions, will expand his responsibilities to include chief legal officer and Enterprise Integrity, while retaining his roles as deputy chief compliance officer and deputy chief risk officer for Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC).
Yang’s appointment aligns with TMC’s goal of building a globally unified legal, compliance, and risk management team, and he will now oversee the company’s legal, compliance, and audit functions. In her new role, Gibson will lead U.S.-based corporate sustainability strategy and oversee regulatory policy and compliance. Kim Cockrell, senior vice president and chief human resources and administrative officer, will assume expanded duties including sustainability and community impact, corporate security, and emergency management.
Ted Ogawa, president and CEO of TMNA, emphasized that these changes reflect the company’s strong leadership pipeline and commitment to continuity as it prepares for the future. The company expressed gratitude to Phillips and Stricker for their contributions and expressed confidence in the leadership transition to Yang, Gibson, Cockrell, and the broader team.
