Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has signed a deal with Stellantis to build Defender-branded vehicles in the US, potentially sidestepping tariffs and better targeting American buyers. The partnership could lead to the development of new Defender variants, including a simpler, more rugged model aimed at off-road vehicles like the Ford Bronco and Ineos Grenadier.
Alternatively, JLR might use the upcoming Ram Ramcharger SUV as the basis for a larger, ultra-premium Defender with V8 power and a six-figure price tag, targeting affluent American buyers. The company sees significant room for expansion in the US market, with North America already accounting for roughly 28 percent of its global sales.

JLR executives believe that the US is its biggest opportunity for growth, and the new partnership with Stellantis could help unlock it. The company is considering developing products that can help it ‘tap into adjacent segments’ where it currently has no presence, leaving room for speculation about the future of the Defender brand.
