This 1970s BMW CSL Coupe Is Hiding A Whole M5 Underneath

A unique BMW mashup is up for sale on Bring a Trailer, combining the body of a 1970s E9 CSL coupe with the performance of an E39 M5 sedan.

The project, created by German outfit MKO, involved shortening the M5’s floorpan by 8 inches and grafting an E9 roof onto the chassis.

The result is a hand-built fusion of classic coupe styling and modern M-car performance, with a rebuilt 4.9-liter M V8 delivering 426 horsepower through a six-speed manual gearbox.

The car features a mix of old and new components, including CSL Batmobile-inspired aerodynamic pieces, Hella driving lights, and a Porsche paint finish.

Inside, the modified M5 dashboard remains, joined by heated Recaro seats, dual-zone climate control, and a Pioneer touchscreen. The car is available for purchase on Bring a Trailer Germany.
