When Career Exposure Changes Everything

Students from Huntsville City Schools visited Toyota Alabama, where they gained exposure to a working production floor and saw machines in motion, teams collaborating, and innovation happening in real time. This experience was part of the INDTECH program, a Toyota USA Foundation initiative called Driving Possibilities, which aims to bridge the gap between classroom learning and career pathways. The program provides hands-on learning experiences, direct access to industry professionals, and real-world exposure to careers, helping students build awareness and confidence. According to data collected by MGT Impact Solutions, LLC, Driving Possibilities contributed to a 30.5 percentage point increase in STEM awareness and a 3.1 point rise in academic achievement, while chronic absenteeism decreased by 2.0 points. The program’s impact goes deeper, helping students stay connected to school and envision a future they may not have previously considered. As one program leader reflected, “You can’t be what you don’t see.” The program is helping students see new possibilities for their future and is part of a broader commitment to long-term workforce development, ensuring students are prepared to pursue careers that will shape the future of mobility, manufacturing, and innovation.
