Ford’s U.S. Heritage Fleet, a preservation initiative for the Blue Oval’s most significant vehicles, rolled out two head-turning concepts at this year’s EyesOn Design car show. The event, held annually on Father’s Day at the Ford family estate in Grosse Pointe Shores, Michigan, gave enthusiasts a rare chance to see the 2001 Ford Forty Nine and the 2005 Shelby GR-1 in person. Both concepts remain as striking today as they were at their debuts decades ago. The Forty Nine pays tribute to the 1949 Ford, reimagining its iconic design with modern touches while evoking the spirit of classic chopped-and-channeled customs. The Shelby GR-1, which joined the Heritage Fleet last year, draws inspiration from the 1964 Shelby Cobra Daytona. Under its sleek body, it borrows heavily from the Ford GT, including its double wishbone suspension and steering rack. Power comes from a Ford GT-derived V10 engine producing 600 horsepower, mated to a six-speed manual transmission. Ford Heritage Fleet Manager Matt Korczyk shared photos of the event via Instagram, offering a close-up look at these automotive time capsules.
